Choosing Your Perspective

I took this photo in Berkeley Springs, WV.  Of course the sentiment is a good one, but what made it worth photographing from my perspective was the aging of the bumper sticker.  It's weathered, cracked and split, but the message is still very clear.  It made me smile because the bumper sticker had clearly been stuck to the back of that car for a while.  Something about it made me believe that this individual had been committed to the power of living a positive life through a journey of some length.
During my life, I've found that you don't have to put forth effort to find negativity.  Life is tough and has tons of bumps, hurdles and even the occasional boulder that can really weigh you down.  A step back from any situation can illuminate how our experiences are confined by the limited perspectives we use to interpret them.  A new perspective can be so refreshing, invigorating and motivating!  Next time you are in a situation where someone is in a negative place or you feel yourself getting into your own negative place, take a deep breath, smile and shine some understanding, non-judgmental positivity into the situation.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.  I hope you and yours have a wonderful day, joy filled holiday season and great end of 2010.  This time of year makes me realize how many, many things I am grateful for in my life.  May your life be filled with many blessings!

Hello, happy Fall and photo peak!

Hi all!  I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying this beautiful Fall weather.  I've been a busy person of recent, but was able to clear some time to spend a lovely weekend in the country and to savor a weekend stroll in the park with my pooch to enjoy the cool weather and colorful leaves.  I also have an exciting Fall photo session planned on 13 acres of gorgeous property - inclusive of stone ruins.  I'm super excited!!  I hope you've been able to take some time to enjoy the transition into Fall too.

In the meantime, I want to share some images from a fabulous photo session I did earlier this year with a multi-talented, fun and fashionable friend.  Enjoy!

Too Precious Not to Share

This weekend I met the newest addition to my friend's lovely family.  At eight days old this baby boy has mastered snuggling.  I managed to capture a few images when not taking full advantage of the opportunity to soak up newborn baby snuggles.

Happy Mother's Day!

I had the absolute pleasure of launching Mother's Day weekend with a sweet mother and son photo session.  After forecasts of high winds and thunderstorms, we were graced with fabulous weather for our morning in the park.  Hanging with mommies and kiddos is very close to the top of my list and these two are pretty awesome.  We spent the morning blowing bubbles, drawing with sidewalk chalk, reading story books, counting spiders and enjoying waterfalls.  It was all capped off with smoothies and cupcakes.  Does life get much better?  Here are some of the snuggles and fun...

It's Spring and love is in the air!

An early Sunday morning engagement session in Dupont Circle provided the perfect backdrop for photographing one of my favorite couples.  It was that time in early Spring where mornings are still chilly, the leaves on the trees are just beginning to unfurl and flowers are bursting into bloom.  Between portraits, coffee, more portraits and brunch, we enjoyed watching this lovely part of the city awaken into it's usual hustle and bustle.  Here are some of my favs from the day...

2009 Tranquil Space Foundation Gala

The 2009 Tranquil Space Foundation Gala was a lovely time again this year and I had such fun photographing it. The Gala was held in the art infused law firm Steptoe & Johnson and included fun presentations, door prizes, raffle tickets (including some box seat Caps tix that I had my fingers and toes crossed about winning) and lovely auction items (I'll use this opportunity to send a warm hello to the winner of the Mannix Photography photo session - can't wait to photograph your daughter!).

I have to extend support to this year's TSF grantee, Nest, which is a nonprofit aimed at supporting women artists and artisans in the developing world through helping them create sustainable entrepreneurial businesses. Photographing the gala didn't leave me a lot of time to work in shopping, but I think I'll help Nest support artists this year through some mindful holiday shopping. Check out the Nest website to see what cool things are offered by these women artists.

Getting to photograph causes I'm passionate about and people I love to spend time with is a blessing in my life for which I am incredibly grateful. I've included some images below. If you didn't make it this year, come out and support next year. Enjoy!

Yoga Photography

Recently I have been having a wonderful time photographing fabulous (and glamorous!) yoginis. It's been tons of fun figuring out the perfect angles and accessories to create these fun and unique images of their yoga practice.

My yoginis are truly amazing women. Not only are they able to do incredible things with their bodies, but they are also fun and impressive people both inside and out. While the fusion of yoga and glamour in our images is perhaps non-traditional, the convergence of wonderful traits within these ladies is a fine example of yoga at it fullest. You ladies are a blast and I'm honored to have photographed you!

I'm also super excited for the upcoming yoga photo sessions I have with several wonderful yoga teachers. It will be an honor to capture each of your 23 wonderful, unique and amazing selves. Thank you all for sharing your practice with me. Enjoy the photos!
